Top Ten Tuesday - Books I Want to Reread

Top Ten Tuesday is an original feature/weekly meme created here at The Broke and the Bookish. This feature was created because we are particularly fond of lists here at The Broke and the Bookish. We'd love to share our lists with other bookish folks and would LOVE to see your top ten lists!

Each week we will post a new Top Ten list that one of our bloggers here at The Broke and the Bookish will answer. Everyone is welcome to join. All we ask is that you link back to The Broke and the Bookish on your own Top Ten Tuesday post AND add your name to the Linky widget so that everyone can check out other bloggers lists! If you don't have a blog, just post your answers as a comment. Have fun with it! It's a fun way to get to know your fellow bloggers.

So...I (Jamie) realized that I did a POOR job scheduling this one and the other similar topic top ten books I want to read/experience for the first time...which is in two weeks! SORRY GUYS. I do see a difference between them which is why I had both of them but I meant to schedule them further apart.  Is everyone cool with this or shall I turn two weeks from now into a rewind week where everyone picks an old topic they wanted to do but didn't??  And then I'll schedule "books I want to read/experience for the first time for later. Check here for future topics.

Top Ten Books I want to Reread

1. The Time Traveler's Wife by Audrey Niffenegger - this was one of my immediate favorites when I read it about 6 years ago. As with any old favorite, I want to see how it holds up with time. Plus I could use a reread of such an epic love story.
2. The History of Love by Nicole Krauss - I remember this story being beautifully written and inspirational. I think it's one of those books I might like even more the second go round.
3. Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close by Jonathan Safran Foer - I read this one more recently so I might not revisit it for a bit, but it's definitely on my to be reread list! Oskar is one of my favorite fictional characters ever.
4. The Book Thief by Markus Zusak - This book made me cry more than any book ever has and I think that's a great thing. I will probably reread The Book Thief over and over.
5. The Perks of Being A Wallflower by Stephen Chobsky - I've reread this a few times already and I think some days are just days you have to sit and read this in one sitting.
6. The Harry Potter series by J.K. Rowling - I'm already in progress with this (sort of). I began listening to the audiobooks but have only completed the first two. I'm not sure if I'll continue with the audio version or if I'll pick up the actual books instead. Either way, this is a series that I'm sure I will continue to reread over and over for a long time.
7. A Tree Grows in Brooklyn by Betty Smith - I read this during a somewhat difficult time in my life and I remember relating so much to the main character. I'm not sure how it will be on a reread but I'd like to find out.
8.  Looking for Alaska by John Green - I love John Green and this was the first book by him that I read, before I realized that he has a formula for his characters. I thought it was such a good book and it's pretty perfect for a rainy day reread.
9. The Bell Jar by Sylvia Plath - I just really enjoy Ms. Plath's writing and I'm planning on reading her journals soon. I think after getting a little more insight into what went on in her head, it'd be good to reread The Bell Jar.
10. Catch 22 by Joseph Heller - I read this in college when I first started getting back into reading for pleasure again and I remember being a little overwhelmed with schoolwork at the time. I'd like to reread and see if it's more enjoyable to me now.

  1. A Tree Grows in Brooklyn is such a magical book. I should've put it on my list cause now I want to reread it!

And I totally didn't notice the different topic next month and did this one half 'reread' and half 'reread-for-the-first-time.' My brain is special that way I guess. Ooops.

  2. The final Harry Potter is on my list! Great list- you really have an interesting mix of books. Another week, another fantastic topic :)

  3. I've only read three books in that list - Looking for Alaska, HP and The Book Thief - all of which I'd re-read as well, given the chance =)

  4. I've been planning to reread The Bell Jar as well! Great books on your list.

  5. LOOKING FOR ALASKA is my favorite John Green. It's actually the only book on your list I've read!

    ReplyDelete
  6. Unfortunately I haven't read any of those except Harry Potter. I would consider reading them again, but that would be a long undertaking.

  7. I would like to re-read A Tree Grows in Brooklyn. I loved that book when I was much younger. It does deserve a re-read...I wonder how it will be as an adult reading it.

I really do need to read The Book Thief. I have seen way too many people make positive comments on it.

I love this meme! Thanks for the future list as well. Maybe in two weeks, people can pick to either rewind or do that week's question...have it as a free-for-all! Make Hopping that much more exciting!

    Cheers!

  8. Most of your re-reads are on my TO read list! I read Time Travelers Wife...I could re-read that.

    ReplyDelete
  9. Wow, I don't think I've read any of these. I may have read A Tree Grows in Brooklyn a long time ago, but I don't remember it.

    ReplyDelete
  10. Is it horrible that I haven't read any of these books?
And as for the weekly topic problem - this week is completely different than books I would want to read for the first time again. That list implies that you want to experience the thrill of the unknown where as this one is all just wanting to immerse yourself into a well-loved novel while still knowing what happens next!
    See, different! :)

  11. I will always want to reread the Harry Potter books! Lol

    ReplyDelete
  12. Harry Potter and Perks are on my list. two. Both books I could never get tired of reading.

  13. Thanks for hosting the meme. I would love to reread the color purple.

  14. The Book Theif by Markus Zusak is on my to read list :)

  15. Great bunch of books on your list, there are a few I havent read though!!

    ReplyDelete
  16. Ahh, everyone's telling me I am going to LOVE the Book Thief ... I really want to read that soon, it's just sitting in my TBR pile!

    ReplyDelete
  17. I've not read any of the books on your list except the Harry Potter series, and I wouldn't mind re-reading that! I did start The Time Travelers Wife, but I just couldn't get into it for some reason. Perhaps I should pick it back up and give it another go...

  18. Thanks for the reminder I need to reread Perks of Being a Wallflower before the movie comes out!

    ReplyDelete
  19. I think the two themes are different enough, at least they will necessarily result in two quite different lists.

I just reread the whole of Harry Potter, so he didn't make my list, but of course I will want to reread them again some day.

    ReplyDelete
  20. I haven't read most of these, but Time Traveler's Wife made my list too.
Thank you for the great meme, I began participating last week and I am enjoying it thoroughly! As for your question, the two themes do overlap, but I feel my list would be quite different. If you are in doubt, though, do reschedule.

  21. Definitely want to reread Harry Potter series again one right after the other, and it looks like I need to read several for the first time off your list including The perks of being a Wall Flower, which I have seen on several lists.

    ReplyDelete
  22. I just borrowed Looking for Alaska from the library! Now I'm really interested to read it because it's one of your top ten! I participated in this weekly meme for the first time. Please check out my top ten book to re-read too!

  23. I've heard such amazing things about The Perks of Being a Wallflower! I can't wait to read the book, and I'm so excited that they're making a movie from it! I love it when they do that (as long as the movie is awesome LOL)!

Here's my Top Ten! And you can still enter my 300 Followers Giveaway if you haven't already! :)

    Awesome list, Heather!

  24. A Tree Grows in Brooklyn is one I've been meaning to re-read for ages. Listening to audiobooks of Harry Potter seems like a great way to reread them. Maybe I'll have to try it that way!

As for the two rereading topics, I'm fine with you not changing the schedule. I took the topics to mean completely different things, too, so my list is already mostly brainstormed. ;-)

  25. The Bell Jar is one of those books I always have lying around in view. I like to pick it up and read the passages I love. Especially about the figs, because sometimes that is exactly what I feel. Great pick!

Hope you have a lovely Tuesday! :)

    My Top 10 Tuesday

  26. I love rereading The Book Thief. I want to reread Catch 22 as well. I consider it one of my favorites, but I only read it once, back in high school!

    ReplyDelete
  27. Great list! I definitely should reread The Book Thief.

    ReplyDelete
  28. A lot of yours are on my TBR list. Which is a long, long list!

    ReplyDelete
  29. A Tree Grows in Brooklyn! I haven't thought about that book in years....

    ReplyDelete
  30. I still haven't gotten around to Looking For Alaska!

    ReplyDelete
  31. Thanks for posting this topic. I don't too much rereading - with the exception of The Jessica Darling Series by Megan McCafferty. I can read those books over and over and over again without question.

But when I do reread, it is usually a book that I can read in a day or 2 so that I can leave time for my TBR pile. But after compiling this list I realized there are so many books that I want to reread, characters I want to revisit, stories I want to live in all over again.

The Perks of Being a Wallflower - it is really great - it's not on the list, but I could read it all over again. (If I could find my copy).

    As always, thanks for hosting!

    ReplyDelete
  32. The Time Traveler's Wife and A Tree Grows in Brooklyn are on my list too!

    ReplyDelete
  33. Great picks! I think I might have to go back and re-read The Time Traveler's Wife, it was so good! Thank you for sharing! :)

    ReplyDelete
  34. Great list! I have Harry Potter and A Tree Grows In Brooklyn on my list ... it's my fave book of all time, but I haven't reread it in a few years, so I'm due for it.

    ReplyDelete
  35. The only Top 10 of yours I've read so far is The Bell Jar, which I adored. Most of the others have been on my TBR for a while! I should really get to them, haha

    ReplyDelete
  36. The Book Thief is such a amazing book. I only read it here recently, but I highly agree with it being on a list like this. :)

    ReplyDelete
  37. Sigh...The Time Traveler's Wife is my all-time favorite book. I read it a couple of times a year and it's always beautiful.

    ReplyDelete
  38. I almost added A Time Traveler's Wife to my listbut I already had too many. I should add that in, along with The Bell Jar and Possession. Good list!

    ReplyDelete
  39. Sorry folks. I must be the exception to some literary rule here but I read The Bell Jar ages ago and once was more than enough. I recall around the same time reading I Claudius, The Sound and the Fury as well as One Hundred Years of Solitude and those I would certainly read again. Oh, and Jeanette Winterson's The Passion and almost anything by Angela Carter or Rikki Ducornet. Sorry for the ramble.

    ReplyDelete
  40. I have a bunch of yours on my TBR list that I need to get to! Awesome list!

    ReplyDelete
  41. Great list! I totally forgot Harry Potter, and that's one I definitely should have included.

    ReplyDelete
  42. So excited as today is my first Top Ten post :D Oh I do love a list!!

I actually bought Looking For Alaska today, so quite excited to see it on your list. Sounds like I'm in for a good read!!

    ReplyDelete
  43. I don't think you need to re-schedule or change your topics. Today's topic suggests to me books I enjoy enough that I want to re-read them and search their pages for passages to ponder or to simply enjoy the story again. The topic you have scheduled for two weeks is books I would like to read for the first time again--that is an entirely different subject. It is a reflection on how I as the reader enjoyed my experience with the book. I might not ever read the book again, but I would certainly like to remember my journey through the story.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Harry Potter is on my list too. I've needed to reread it since I first read Deathly Hallows. One of these days....

    ReplyDelete
  45. Great list -- with a mix of genres and an interesting balance of classics and contemporary titles. I think it's funny you put married authors' works one after the other. I actually never finished ELaIC, but I should read it before the movie comes out this holiday season. I've read the rest of the works on your list, and would read most of them again. I went through a serious Sylvia Plath stage in high school (didn't we all?), so I'm not sure I need to reread The Bell Jar again ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  46. Many great lists! I'm writing in Norwegian on my blog, but hopefully you recognise the names of the authors...

    ReplyDelete
  47. Running late today, just posted my list.

Enjoyed reading your list very much.

I haven't read CATCH 22 in years and years. I wonder what I'd make of it now.

  50. The Book Thief and The Bell Jar are on my list, too. The Book Thief made me cry buckets the first time I read it. One of the saddest books ever.

    ReplyDelete
  51. I love your weekly top tens, and am just now jumping on the bandwagon. Its really fun!

    ReplyDelete
  52. I really enjoy doing the top ten list. This is my 2nd week :D

I've read the Time Travellers Wife and The Book Thief. Both are worth a re-read :)

    ReplyDelete
  53. Looking for Alaska would definitely be on my list as well.

    ReplyDelete
  54. In your list I can reread only Looking for Alaska or The time traveler's Wife! Nice list!

    ReplyDelete
  55. It's funny, almost all the books on your list could have been on mine as well, but I don't think the books I actually listed have any overlap. I've never read The Bell Jar or Looking for Alaska.

    ReplyDelete
  56. This is such a neat feature! I love Top Ten Tuesday!

    ReplyDelete
  57. Those are some terrific choices. I've read most of them and loved them all. I would definitely read them again.

  66. I'm really sorry I left my comment/link on the wrong post earlier. I feel really stupid.

    ReplyDelete
  67. I absolutely love this topic! Reading books that you love over and over again is underrated. I wish I could do that with every book I love. Sadly, there just isn't enough time!

  68. Oh, I forgot The Time Traveler's Wife! Excellent choice. :-)

    ReplyDelete
  69. I could always use a rewind week! I really wanna do some villains that I missed! lol
